Atletico Mineiro qualified for the next round despite a loss to Independiente Santa Fe. That gives Brazil a total of 3 candidates thus far for the next stage of the contest. Meanwhile on Wednesday Palmeiras qualified for the quarter finals having defeated Universitario of Sucre in Bolivia by a comfortable margin of 3-1. Independiente however, qualified after a night of serious conflict in their 4-2 defeat of Defensor Sporting after losing just barely in Montevideo. Union San Felipe on the otherhand had no one to help them as they were shattered by Liga de Quito 6-1.
