AFC Asian Cup final match-up and other news.

Well the fairy tale is over for Uzbekistan in Qatar. They met Australia on the field of battle and were eliminated. The final scoreline was 6-0 and the Uzbeks were down to ten men at the end. This puts the final of the Asian Cup between Australia and Japan, what is sure to be a fantastic match as well. Harry Kewell opened for the Australians very early in the match before Sasa Ognenovski made it 2-0 before the half.  David Carney then struck a third before the Uzbeks lost one of their strikers due to a red card: Ulugbek Bakaev was sent off and the Aussies were encouraged to push on. Brett Emerton got Australia's fourth before Carl Valeri struck the fifth. The sixth goal was only a matter of time and Robbie Kruse was the man to collect it as the Uzbeks were not only demoralised, but simply falling apart in every part of the field. It really wasn't a good showing for a side who had made a name for themselves up until this stage of the tournament. If the Uzbeks can win the third place match, according to pretty ingenious competition rules, they could automatically qualify for the next edition of the Asian Cup in 2015. In the other Semi-final match, Japan and South Korea could only be seperated by penalties, which the Japanese easily claimed victory by a 3-0 margin. Yasuyuki Konno struck the winning penalty. Koo Ja-Cheol, Lee Yong-Rae and Hong Jeong-Ho had all taken, and missed, their oppurtunities for South Korea. In regulation time, the game ended 2-2 but Hwang Jae-Won served as hero for the Koreans, equalising as the second period of extra-time died. Kawashima had a good time in goal for the Japanese during the penalty shoot-out as he saved two and didn't have to bother with South Korea's third. In other news, Honduras are the Champions of Central America having won the 2011 Copa Centroamericana in Panama over the weekend. They defeated Costa Rica in the Final match to officially get the title which they had already held as the sole Central American side to play in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where they played a good game but weren't able to advance very far.
