More International News!

So yeah, Spain are Champions of the world, and they beat Portugal in the World Cup to get there. So how is it that the Portuguese absolutely destroyed the Spaniards in their rivalry match today? Well, credit where credit is due: Cristiano Ronaldo was nothing short of inspirational. Playing in the stadium of Portuguese giants Benfica, they got a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half from Carlos Martins while in the second half 3 more goals were provided: Hélder Postiga striking twice and Hugo Almeida adding a fourth near the end. Nani and Cristiano Ronaldo were both sources of energy while the Spanish had their chances, they just couldn't convert them. A goal ruled off-sides wasn't enough to hinder the Portuguese on their way to victory. Germany v.s. Sweden was nothing special as the match ended a goalless draw. Italy's patchwork team played out a 1-1 draw with an exciting Romania, while the Netherlands scored a single goal, by Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, to claim victory over Turkey. At the same time, Alexander Frei and Switzerland were good enough to tie the Ukraine 2-2 in their match; both Swiss goals came from Frei. Belgium have a beautiful oppurtunity it would seem in the young Romelu Lukaku after he scored the nation's 2 goals in their blow-out of Russia. China defeated Latvia 1-0 in their match which shows some good signs for the immense Asian nation. Egypt registered a comfortable win against Australia in their match, winning 3-0. At the same time, the U.S. edged South Africa in their match, winning 1-0 as Greece beat Austria 2-1.
