European U-17 Final!

The tournament this year was quite thrilling as Germany and the Netherlands faced-off in the Final in a breathtaking display. Both sides managed to strike blows as Germany's captain Leon Goretzka gave his side the lead in the 45th minute. Through some intense battling the Germans managed to keep that lead until the 81st minute when Elton Acolatse managed to control a free ball at the back post of the German net and volleyed emphatically to send the game to penalties. The sides were level in penalties until the Netherland's goalkeeper Nick Olij saved Marc Stendera's shot to give his side a back-to-back victory after being the current holders. Having said that, the Germans really should have wrapped it up before penalties: Germany had a total of 13 opportunities to the Netherlands' 7 while also receiving more corners (6 to 2). Congratulations to the Dutch though! We'll see if this is only a precursor to their performance at the top-level of the Euro Cup this summer!
