Champions League update!!! The results for 12/7/11.

So in Group A we had quite the set of matches with Manchester City defeating Bayern Munich by a scoreline of 2-0 which did... Absolutely nothing for the English side! They are still out following Napoli's defeat of Villarreal by the same scoreline in Spain. Bayern remained at the top of the group despite their loss, standing tall with 13 points. Napoli meanwhile qualified with 11 points in 2nd place. City were left a point behind in 3rd while Villarreal ended in 4th with 0 points. On to Group B now where Inter were surprised 1-2 by the likes of CSKA Moskva in Italy. Up in France meanwhile, Lille and Trabzonspor ended level 0-0 which left the Turkish side out of luck in 3rd place. Inter still held on to 1st place despite their loss while CSKA grabbed 2nd by the edge of their teeth. Lille finish the table in 4th. Now Group C is where the hugest surprises came: not from Benfica's edging Otelul Galati 1-0 but rather Basel's 2-1 victory over giants of world football Manchester United. That result led to the knocking out of the Manchester club before the knock-out stages even begin! Benfica and Basel thus ensured their respective qualifications in 1st and 2nd. United ended up in 3rd with 9 points while Galati finished with nothing. In concluding we have Group D where Real Madrid completed their conquest with a perfect winning record. This came after their 0-3 victory over Ajax of the Netherlands. With 18 points from 6 games giving them an untouchable lead, Madrid can feel very happy for themselves. Meanwhile, in Croatia, Dinamo Zagreb were absolutely hammered by Lyon of France who struck 7 times while allowing just 1 in. The result was exactly what the French side needed to qualify as they managed to overturn any adverse goal differences. So here are the teams in the next round: from Group A there is Bayern and Napoli; from B there is Inter and CSKA; as far as C goes Benfica and Basel are the surprise representatives; D's delegation consists of Real Madrid and Lyon while E qualifiers are Chelsea and Bayer Leverkusen. In Group F Arsenal and Marseille reigned while G was grabbed at the death by the likes of APOEL and Zenit St. Petersburg.
