U-20 World Cup update. One step closer to wrapping up the Group Stage.

Well Group C finished up today and there were 2 great games to be seen. Ecuador were actually able to salvage themselves for the next round. Beating Costa Rica 3-0 was exactly what was necessary for them to get one step closer to their dreams. Edson Montano struck very early in the game, the 2nd minute in fact. Marlon de Jesus tied the knot with 2 more goals in the 13th and 69th minutes. With that, Ecuador edged themselves into 2nd place meaning they are going to the Second Stage. Australia also had the chance to make it into the next round. They just had to defeat Spain by a larger margin than Ecuador beat Costa Rica. That's not too much to ask is it? Well, things got of to a terrible start for the Australians. Sergi Roberto scored in the 1st minute, Alvaro Vazquez scored a hat-trick with goals in the 6th, 13th, and 18th minutes. Finally, Kerem Bulut scored 1 for the rather hapless Aussies. The goal came in the 27th minute. Sergio Canales quickly put Spain back on the right path when he converted a penalty in the 31st minute. After such an exciting 1st half, the 2nd half kind of disappointed with no more goals meaning the match ended 1-5 in favor of the Spaniards. As I post this, Saudi Arabia and Nigeria are playing and the Africans are living up to their formidable reputation: they lead 0-1 in the 79th minute thanks to a goal from Ahmed Musa in the 2nd minute of stoppage time of the 1st half. But Olarenwaju Kayode has undoubtedly sealed it for the Nigerians! Another sensational goal coming in the 85th! Croatia v.s. Guatemala is also taking place with the sides level, up until the 81st minute. Marvin Ceballos has now scored an absolutely fantastic goal! Yes, he collected a yellow the next minute for his celebration but so what? He may have just won them a bit of pride after a rather disappointing World Cup. Hopefully the great games keep coming!
